The Community Gardens in Port Severn were created by the Township of Georgian Bay to provide space for gardening while supporting community-based food sharing. In lieu of paying a fee to use a garden plot, participants donate 20% of their harvested produce to local agencies for distribution to those in need.
The Baxter Ward Lions Club tends two plots, with all harvested produce donated to the local Food Bank. Georgian Bay Biosphere and Township of Georgian Bay Libraries are also valued partners in this community project.
Volunteers recently took advantage of a rainy day to weed and plant the plots. Leaf lettuce and leeks are actively growing, and the gardens are well underway for another productive season.
Through the efforts of volunteers and community partners, the Community Gardens continue to provide fresh, healthy produce while supporting local food-sharing initiatives and strengthening community connections. 🌱🦁🍃
